Actress Rasika Dugal has taken piano lessons for her upcoming drama Little Thomas, embracing the challenge of learning a new skill for the film.
The Mirzapur and Manto actress took to social media on Sunday to share videos of her piano practice sessions, revealing that she rehearsed at home, on set, between shots and even inside her vanity van whenever time and space permitted.
Sharing her experience of learning the instrument, Rasika wrote that the practice sessions involved everything from slow and fast exercises to playing on and off the beat. She also described working through mistakes and moments of frustration, finding humour in some errors while persevering through others.
Reflecting on the experience, she wrote, “Life lesson — persistence is fun. And being a loopy person (if you are one… you know what I am talking about) has some benefits.”
The actress also highlighted the importance of having a patient, encouraging and supportive teacher when learning something new.
Expressing her happiness at acquiring the skill for Little Thomas, she said it had been an absolute joy to learn piano for the film, adding that getting the opportunity to develop a new skill made the experience even more rewarding.
Ahead of the film’s release, Rasika also shared her thoughts on the importance of cinema made for children and the role it can play in shaping their imagination and worldview.
She said cinema offers a wonderful way to broaden horizons and fuel imagination, adding that many ideas people carry into adulthood can be traced back to the films they watched while growing up.
Emphasising the need for relatable stories for young audiences, she said children’s films should embrace their curiosity rather than dismiss it.
Rasika further noted that children’s cinema can be entertaining without being frivolous and meaningful without becoming preachy. She expressed her hope that more filmmakers would explore stories that children can enjoy while discovering new possibilities through their imagination.
With Little Thomas, the actress is looking forward to being part of a film that has given her the opportunity to explore a new skill while contributing to a story aimed at expanding young viewers’ horizons.
