Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir carried out a search operation at a Jammu jail, conducted an anti-tunnelling exercise along the International Border (IB) in Samba district and held emergency mock drills at Jammu Railway Station and a CRPF camp in Ramban district on Saturday as part of heightened security measures.
Officials said the coordinated exercises were aimed at assessing operational readiness, strengthening inter-agency coordination and improving preparedness to respond to potential security threats.
A joint search operation was conducted at District Jail Amphalla around 10 a.m. by jail staff, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The operation lasted more than an hour, and no suspicious or objectionable material was found inside the premises, officials said.
In Samba district, the Border Security Force (BSF) conducted an anti-tunnelling exercise in the forward area along the International Border at Border Outpost Lalfamkima in the Ramgarh sector.
Officials said the exercise was intended to detect any possible cross-border tunnels that could be used for infiltration or the smuggling of arms, ammunition and other contraband into Indian territory. No such structure was detected during the operation.
Mock drills were also conducted at Jammu Railway Station and a CRPF camp in the Banihal area of Ramban district to assess emergency response capabilities and coordination among security and civilian agencies.
At Jammu Railway Station, personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), fire and emergency services, medical teams and a bomb disposal squad participated in the exercise. Teams from the CID Special Branch and CID Counter Intelligence were also present.
A separate joint security and emergency response mock drill was held at the CRPF camp in Banihal. The exercise began at 11 a.m. and concluded at 12:20 p.m., officials said.
Personnel from the Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF, RPF, Government Railway Police (GRP), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, fire and emergency services, along with the Block Medical Officer of Banihal, participated in the drill.
The operations form part of a wider security initiative across multiple districts of the Jammu division to strengthen vigilance, assess preparedness and secure critical installations.
The coordinated exercises involved the Jammu and Kashmir Police, BSF and CRPF, officials said.
