The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has arrested two alleged drug smugglers and seized 14.965 kg of heroin packed in 30 packets in Punjab’s Guru Har Sahai area.
AIG ANTF Gurinderbir Singh said the arrests were made after a team laid a trap near Rauke Hithar village following specific intelligence inputs.
The accused have been identified as Simon Singh alias Saimal and Harbhajan Singh alias Babbu, both residents of Chhanga Rai Hithar village. They were allegedly travelling on a motorcycle bearing registration number PB 05 AW 0953 when the police apprehended them and recovered the heroin.
According to the AIG, a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at the ANTF police station in SAS Nagar under FIR No. 249.
Probe Underway to Trace Drug Network
Preliminary investigation has indicated that the accused were allegedly using the motorcycle to transport and deliver heroin locally, Gurinderbir Singh said.
He added that investigators were working to identify the source of the seized contraband, examine financial transactions and suspected hawala channels, and establish the identity of the intended recipients.
Further arrests are possible as the police investigate the suspected drug network and trace its backward and forward linkages, the AIG said.
