Actress Nimrat Kaur remembered her late father, Major Bhupender Singh, on his birthday with an emotional tribute, reflecting on his enduring presence in the family’s life and the pain of his absence.
The Airlift actress shared a heartfelt note on Instagram on Sunday, expressing how special occasions bring back memories of her father and make her miss him even more.
“Happy birthday to Papa…never a day without his being and light around us. Thinking of him and missing him a little extra today. Hard to put the rest into words,” she wrote.
Nimrat also shared a series of cherished photographs from her childhood. The pictures featured her posing alongside her father and offered a glimpse into his life in the Indian Army, adding a personal touch to her emotional tribute.
Reacting to the post, Navjot Singh Sidhu praised the actress and her family’s legacy, writing, “Torchbearer of a great legacy Nimrat keep shining!”
Through her message, Nimrat conveyed how her father’s memory remains an integral part of her life, even decades after his death. She also acknowledged how difficult it can be to put such deeply personal emotions into words, particularly on a day that holds special significance for the family.
Major Bhupender Singh served in the Indian Army as an engineer and was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra in recognition of his bravery.
On January 17, 1994, he was abducted by terrorists belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen in Verinag, Kashmir, while returning from an official assignment. He was held captive for seven days before being killed at the age of 44, around January 23, 1994.
Nimrat was just 11 years old when she lost her father. Following his death, her mother, Avinash Kaur, raised Nimrat and her younger sister, Rubina, on her own in Delhi and Noida.
Major Bhupender Singh’s service and sacrifice remain a significant part of the family’s legacy, while Nimrat’s birthday tribute reflected the lasting emotional bond she continues to share with her late father.
