Actress and filmmaker Nandita Das marked seven years of her 2018 biographical drama ‘Manto’ with a heartfelt social media post, recalling her journey with the film and inviting audiences to share their memories of it.
Sharing two posters of the film on Instagram, Nandita said ‘Manto’ was a journey she would cherish forever. She also informed viewers that the film is available on YouTube and Apple TV.
The filmmaker revealed that she had also written a book documenting her experience of making the film, titled ‘Manto & I’.
She described the book as a collection of images and stories tracing the project from its inception to its completion, and encouraged audiences who watch the film or read the book to share their thoughts.
Several Instagram users responded by praising the film and recalling their own experiences of watching it. One user described the casting of Sirajuddin as an especially memorable aspect, while another called watching the film an experience they would cherish forever.
‘Manto’ is a cinematic adaptation of the life of renowned Urdu writer Saadat Hasan Manto, with Nawazuddin Siddiqui portraying the titular character.
The film’s primary cast also includes Tahir Raj Bhasin as Hindi film superstar Shyam Chadda and Rasika Dugal as Manto’s wife, Safia.
The biographical drama explores Manto’s life and his experiences as a writer against the backdrop of a turbulent period in the subcontinent’s history.
‘Manto’ was the first film produced under Nandita Das Initiatives LLP, the production banner founded by Nandita Das in 2016.
