A court in Telangana on Wednesday sent trainee IPS officer M. Uday Krishna Reddy to two days of police custody in connection with a sexual assault and harassment case registered by a woman batchmate at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), Hyderabad.
The First Class Additional Judicial Magistrate of Ranga Reddy District at Rajendranagar passed the order on a petition filed by the police seeking custody for further investigation.
Reddy was earlier remanded to 14 days of judicial custody on July 29 and has been lodged at Chanchalguda Central Prison since then.
The case was registered at Attapur Police Station on July 18 following a complaint by the woman trainee officer. Police booked him under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections related to sexual offences, criminal intimidation, harassment and other alleged offences, along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.
Police said Reddy was arrested on July 28 after preliminary investigation indicated his alleged involvement in the reported offences. Investigators have alleged that he threatened to circulate private chats after the woman ended their relationship and married another person.
According to police, Reddy had earlier served as a police constable in Andhra Pradesh before clearing the UPSC examination and joining the Indian Police Service as part of the 2025 batch. He has been undergoing training at SVPNPA since December 2025.
Police said Reddy and the complainant came in contact through Instagram in mid-2025 after she responded to a post about his journey towards joining the IPS.
During the investigation, police alleged that their relationship involved frequent disputes, emotional pressure, possessive behaviour and repeated harassment. The accused allegedly threatened suicide, displayed weapons, damaged the woman’s laptop, created fake social media accounts after being blocked, and contacted her family members and colleagues without her consent.
Investigators also claimed to have found evidence indicating that Reddy was allegedly in a relationship with another woman from Andhra Pradesh.
Police said the woman, who had married in 2014 and separated from her husband in 2023, moved to Hyderabad following Reddy’s suggestion. She later resigned from a private job in January this year and joined an IAS coaching institute, according to the investigation.
The police custody period will be used for further questioning and collection of additional evidence in the case.
