The Punjab Government has issued notification regarding elections and bye-elections of Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats. The Government has said that the elections and by-elections to local bodies be held by the end of December 2024.
The Local Bodies Department issued a Notification on Friday, to hold elections in five Municipal Corporations namely Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala and Phagwara and bye-elections in some wards of Municipal Corporations of Abohar, Batala, Bathinda and Hoshiarpur.
The Department has asked State Election Commission to hold elections in 44 Municipal Councils. Now, the onus lies on State Election Commission to issue election notification alongwith detailed schedule of elections.
