Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam has welcomed former teammate Mohammad Yousuf’s offer of batting guidance, saying he would be willing to learn from the former Pakistan great if he reaches out to him.
Yousuf recently urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to arrange specialised coaching for Babar at an academy in England or Australia, arguing that technical corrections could help the struggling batter regain his best form.
He also suggested that Babar temporarily stay away from first-class cricket until he addresses the flaws in his batting technique, warning that continued struggles in domestic cricket could affect his confidence and career.
Asked about the suggestion at a press conference ahead of Pakistan’s opening Test against Sri Lanka, Babar said learning was a continuous process. He added that Yousuf had not contacted him directly so far but that he would welcome any opportunity to benefit from his experience.
Calling Yousuf a legend and one of Pakistan’s greatest batters, Babar said he would be ready to learn from him if the former cricketer got in touch.
Babar also responded to questions about his recent dismissals, saying batters could lose their wickets in different ways and that there was not necessarily a recurring pattern behind every dismissal.
He said he considered every dismissal his own responsibility and viewed it as a personal shortcoming, while acknowledging that people could have different perspectives on his performances.
Yousuf’s intervention comes amid scrutiny of Babar’s form, with the former Pakistan captain facing calls to address technical concerns and rebuild his confidence through specialised guidance.
