Bollywood actor Madhuri Dixit has recalled facing criticism during her early years in the film industry, saying that while magazines would comment on actors in the 1990s, the experience was very different from the relentless trolling seen on social media today.
Speaking on the quiz reality show Kon Honar Crorepati, Madhuri discussed how she dealt with negative comments and remained grounded despite years of stardom. Contestants Shiv Thakare and Gautami Patil were on the show when Shiv asked the actor how she handled fame and criticism, noting that some people struggle even with a limited amount of public attention.
Madhuri said her passion for acting kept her focused and prevented her from giving undue importance to negative remarks.
“I love my work very much, and I really enjoy what I do. Because of that, I never paid attention to trolls,” she said, recalling that magazines would sometimes publish comments about actors during her early career.
She added that the situation was not comparable to the present, when people face repeated criticism and trolling on social media.
Emphasising the importance of staying committed to one’s work, Madhuri said people should love what they do and ensure their intentions remain good, adding that other things then matter much less.
Madhuri made her acting debut with Abodh in 1984 and went on to become one of Hindi cinema’s leading stars. Her notable films include Tezaab, Ram Lakhan, Dil, Saajan, Beta, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Dil To Pagal Hai and Devdas.
Known for her acting and dancing, she has built a career spanning five decades.
