CJP Alleges Heavy Security Deployment & Mass Detentions in Delhi, Renews Demand for CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Resignation

New Delhi, October 11, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Sunday alleged that security personnel from Naxal-affected and border areas had been brought to the national capital to enforce restrictions and curb protests over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The party reiterated its demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.

Addressing a press conference hours after being released by a Delhi court following his preventive arrest, CJP co-convener Saurav Das alleged that Delhi had effectively been turned into a cantonment over the past few days.

“The entire city of Delhi has been turned into a cantonment for the last few days,” Das said.

He claimed that between 30,000 and 40,000 security personnel had been called in, including personnel from Naxal-affected areas, West Bengal and Kashmir, as well as Border Security Force (BSF) personnel from border regions. He further claimed that more than 40,000 personnel had reportedly been deployed in the capital amid extensive restrictions.

Das alleged that the measures were creating difficulties not only for protesters but also for ordinary residents who were not participating in the demonstrations.

He said the restrictions risked creating a negative perception of the protest movement by disrupting everyday life and making it difficult for citizens to go about their business.

The CJP leader also criticised the reported closure of metro stations, suspension of trains arriving in Delhi from other states and shutting of shops, arguing that these measures were affecting the public.

Questioning the rationale behind the closure of shops, particularly on a Sunday, Das alleged that the government wanted to generate public resentment against young protesters and their movement. He maintained that people across the country were watching what he described as the harsh treatment of protesters.

Das also accused the Delhi Police of failing to provide a formal detention notice. He alleged that the phones of those detained had been seized and could have been hacked to plant evidence. These allegations were not independently verified.

Claiming that an atmosphere of fear was being created to protect one individual, Das questioned why the government was defending CEC Gyanesh Kumar.

“Why are you saving Gyanesh Kumar? Does he know something about the 2024 elections, or how polls have been conducted in BJP-ruled states?” he asked.

Reaffirming that the CJP would not withdraw from its campaign, Das appealed to citizens to join the protests demanding the CEC’s resignation over the alleged irregularities in the electoral roll revision exercise.

Meanwhile, CJP legal affairs head Ratna Singh welcomed a Supreme Court order directing authorities to ensure the normal functioning of metro and railway services, uninterrupted internet connectivity and the free movement of people in the national capital.

Singh described the order as a positive step but questioned whether it would be implemented effectively.

She alleged that people being detained were being assaulted and that their phones were being confiscated. She further accused the Delhi Police of continuing its existing approach despite judicial directions.

Singh said meaningful change on the ground would depend on the authorities implementing the Supreme Court’s orders.
