Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has reflected on the highs and lows of his professional cricketing career, drawing parallels between his personal experiences and the theme of the streaming reality show Rise & Fall, which he is hosting in its second season.
During a conversation with IANS on the sidelines of the show’s promotions at a five-star property in Mumbai, Sehwag spoke about how success and setbacks are an integral part of life, testing a person’s resilience and determination.
Recalling key moments from his career, Sehwag said his journey had been marked by several phases of both achievement and disappointment, from his debut in 1999 to his memorable batting milestones and periods out of the Indian team.
“In my life Rise and fall has happened a lot. I played my first match in 1999, the match was drawn so, I experienced the fall. Then I made a comeback, and scored the fastest 100 that was the rise for me. In 2007, I was dropped from the team, that was the fall. In 2008, I made a second triple century then I rose again. Life is all about ups and downs. It happens in life, if you keep playing,” Sehwag told IANS.
The former opener said setbacks can also provide opportunities to strengthen one’s foundations and emerge better prepared for future challenges.
“You are not Sachin Tendulkar, that you play for 20 years, and have a smooth sail. In everyone’s life, rise and fall happen. But when you fall, you get a chance to make a solid foundation. When you rise, you become better,” he added.
Sehwag has taken over the hosting responsibilities from Ashneer Grover for the second season of Rise & Fall. The reality series features 15 contestants competing over 42 days in a format centred on power, strategy, alliances and changing fortunes.
The contestants are divided into two groups: Rulers, who exercise control from the Tower, and Workers, who live in the Basement and compete for opportunities to move up in the game. The second season also introduces an additional element of audience participation, allowing viewers to influence who becomes a Ruler or a Worker.
The show features Swara Bhasker, Karan Patel, Priyanka Chahar Choudhary, Shehzad Poonawalla, Gautam Gulati, Tej Pratap Yadav, Sara Gurpal and Kajal Raghwani, among others.
The series marks Sehwag’s streaming debut as a reality-show host. Produced by Banijay Asia, Rise & Fall is available to stream on Amazon MX Player.
