USA Cricketer Akhilesh Reddy Gets Eight-Year Ban Under ICC Anti-Corruption Code

New Delhi, August 3, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

United States cricketer Bodugum Akhilesh Reddy has been suspended from all forms of cricket for eight years after being found guilty of breaching three provisions of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Anti-Corruption Code.

The ban relates to corrupt activities during the 2025 Abu Dhabi T10 tournament in the United Arab Emirates. The Emirates Cricket Board had appointed the ICC as the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (DACO) for the competition.

The 26-year-old’s suspension has been backdated to November 21, 2025, the date on which he was provisionally suspended.

According to the ICC, Reddy was found guilty of attempting to improperly influence match proceedings, encouraging another participant to breach anti-corruption regulations, and obstructing an investigation by deleting relevant data from his mobile device.

The tribunal found that the incident took place on November 19, 2025, when Reddy allegedly approached a teammate, identified as “Player A”, in a hotel room before the opening match of Aspin Stallions and asked him to concede additional runs while bowling at the request of team management.

The teammate rejected the approach and reported the matter to the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU). The tribunal also noted that the player was subsequently left out of the playing XI shortly before the match.

Regarding the obstruction charge, Reddy admitted deleting WhatsApp messages and call records exchanged with “Player A”. Although he described the action as routine “data hygiene” on his iPhone, the tribunal rejected the explanation and concluded that the deletion was intended to remove potentially relevant evidence before the ACU investigation.

The decision followed proceedings before a three-member ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal comprising Michael J Beloff KC (Chair), Justice Kate O’Regan and Lloyd Mhishi.

Reddy made his international debut for the USA against the Cayman Islands in the North America T20 Cup. He has represented the national team in four T20 Internationals and has taken one wicket.
