The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has suspended its Secretary General, Pramod Kumar, with immediate effect over allegations of “flagrant misuse and abuse of authority”, non-cooperation with an inquiry, obstruction of investigation proceedings and unexplained financial irregularities.
In a statement, the BFI said the suspension order had been issued under Clauses 24(xvi) and 24(xxxvi) of the federation’s Constitution. The interim action will remain in force pending completion of the inquiry or until it is modified or revoked by the competent authority.
The development comes amid an escalating dispute within the federation. Kumar had earlier moved a no-confidence motion against BFI president Ajay Singh, citing a “total breakdown of trust and serious governance collapse”. He had also accused Singh and BFI Executive Director Col. Arun Malik of criminal intimidation aimed at derailing the proposed motion.
In a letter issued on Tuesday, the federation accused Kumar of failing to cooperate with an inquiry into the cancellation of the BFI Elite Men and Women Open Boxing Championship 2026, which was scheduled to take place in Nahan, Himachal Pradesh, from August 16 to August 23.
“It is apparent that you are not cooperating with the inquiry into a serious matter involving ramifications upon events conducted by the BFI and its reputation,” the letter stated.
The communication also accused Kumar of issuing allegedly illegal and motivated notices intended to intimidate and obstruct an independent inquiry.
Explaining the decision, the BFI described the suspension as an interim protective measure and clarified that it did not amount to a final determination of the allegations against Kumar.
“This is an interim protective measure and shall not be construed as a final determination of the allegations against you. The allegations shall be examined in accordance with the applicable procedure, and the interim suspension shall remain subject to the safeguards, limitations and review requirements prescribed under the BFI Constitution,” the order stated.
During the suspension period, Kumar has been barred from exercising any functions, powers or duties associated with the office of Secretary General. He has also been prohibited from issuing correspondence, notices, instructions or directions in the name of the federation.
The order further restrains him from directly or indirectly interfering with the Inquiry Committee’s proceedings or attempting to influence witnesses, officials or other individuals associated with the investigation.
Kumar has been directed to cooperate fully with the committee and provide all documents, records, explanations and information sought as part of the ongoing inquiry.
The BFI warned that any attempt to violate the suspension order, obstruct the inquiry, misuse the federation’s authority or interfere with the proceedings could invite further disciplinary action under its Constitution and applicable rules and regulations.
The federation’s order makes clear that the suspension is temporary and that the allegations remain subject to examination under the prescribed procedure.
