Chandigarh, May 16, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Former Indian cricketer and actor Yograj Singh has approached a local court seeking anticipatory bail after an FIR was registered against him over alleged derogatory and misogynistic remarks made in the web series Lukkhe.
The case was registered at Chandigarh’s Sector 36 Police Station following allegations that certain dialogues in the series were offensive towards women and hurt public sentiments. Yograj Singh was booked under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman.
According to legal sources, the court has issued notices to the Chandigarh Administration and the police seeking their response in the matter. The case has now been listed for further hearing on May 20.
The controversy erupted after objections were raised over dialogues in the series allegedly portraying working women in a derogatory manner. The complaint claimed that the remarks targeted women balancing professional careers along with domestic responsibilities.
The complaint was filed by advocate Ujjval Bhasin, who sought legal action against Yograj Singh and others associated with the production of the series.
The matter also drew the attention of the Punjab State Commission for Women, which took suo motu cognisance of the controversy. Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill had earlier directed Punjab Police to investigate the issue and submit an action taken report.
Besides the alleged remarks against women, objections were also raised regarding the reported use of a Chandigarh Police uniform in the series and the naming of a female character as “Gurbani,” which complainants argued could hurt Sikh religious sentiments.
Neither Yograj Singh nor the makers of the web series have issued any detailed public statement regarding the allegations so far.
