Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Chief Spokesperson and MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal accused the Modi-led central government of mercilessly allowing corporate houses to loot the people of the country, Punjab, and especially the farmers of India.
In a statement, Dhaliwal presented figures and said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government has become completely “anti-India,” “anti-farmer,” and “anti-Punjab,” whose sole objective is to empty the pockets of ordinary people and fill the homes of its capitalist friends.
He said that during the last four years, when crude oil prices had fallen drastically across the world, the Modi government, instead of passing on the benefit to the people of the country or to farmers, transferred those gains to major oil companies like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum and ONGC.
These companies were directly benefited with profits worth ₹3.209 lakh crore. Apart from this, the company of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s closest friend, Reliance, was also given a net benefit of nearly ₹3 lakh crore. Overall, a direct burden of approximately ₹6.30 lakh crore was imposed on the pockets of India’s poor people.
Dhaliwal said that the total annual budgets of many small countries in the world are not even worth ₹6.30 lakh crore, yet the Modi government, in collusion with oil companies, has imposed such a massive burden on the people of the country.
The AAP leader launched a sharp attack on the double standards of the central government and said that when oil companies were earning profits worth lakhs of crores, the citizens of the country were not given even a single paisa in relief.
But today, when there is even a minor fluctuation in international prices or when companies face the slightest loss, the central government immediately raises fuel prices and starts strangling the common people. He said that oil prices have continuously increased over the last one week.
Dhaliwal expressed apprehension that he fears the central government may again sharply increase the prices of diesel, petrol and CNG within the next two to three days, which will break the backbone of the poor and middle class.
Sharing the pain of the farmers of Punjab and the country, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said that the paddy sowing season is going to begin across Punjab and the entire country from June 1. In the scorching heat and extreme temperatures, farmers are working day and night, driving tractors to feed their children and the nation.
But at this crucial moment, the cruel central government has stabbed farmers in the back by making fuel more expensive.
He questioned how farmers would continue farming if diesel becomes so costly. The cost of tractors, farming operations and sowing will rise so drastically that farmers will be left with nothing to support their families. He warned that because of expensive fuel, the country’s agricultural system would completely collapse.
Dhaliwal cautioned the people of the country against this massive loot and said that this fight is not just the fight of farmers but of every common citizen of the country.
He said that rising diesel and petrol prices would increase transportation costs, due to which every essential item related to food, clothing and daily use would go beyond the reach of ordinary people. Small traders, street vendors, labourers and salaried employees would be completely ruined due to uncontrolled inflation.
