Chandigarh, June 24, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The Central Government has confirmed that adequate quantities of Urea and DAP fertilizers are available in Punjab for the ongoing Kharif 2026 season, responding directly to a letter written by BJP Punjab President Kewal Singh Dhillon to the Hon’ble Union Minister of Chemicals & Fertilizers on June 10, 2026 subsequent to his meeting with J.P. Nadda.
In a letter dated June 23, 2026, Joint Secretary Bandana Preyashi, IAS, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Government of India, informed Dhillon that 11,45,000 Metric Tons of Urea and 1,80,000 Metric Tons of DAP have been made available to Punjab — exceeding the state’s pro-rata requirement of 9,87,000 MT and 1,11,000 MT respectively. The state currently holds a closing stock of 4,27,000 MT of Urea and 98,000 MT of DAP, in addition to 36,000 MT of NPKS and 89,000 MT of SSP.
Dhillon said: “The Modi government has once again proven that Punjab’s farmers are its highest priority. Within days of our letter, the Centre gave a clear and comprehensive response. Supply is not the problem — the question now is whether the AAP government will ensure this reaches every farmer at the district and block level.”
Dhillon further warned that under the Fertilizer (Control) Order, 1985 and the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, State Governments are fully empowered — and duty-bound — to prevent hoarding, black marketing, and overpricing. Any fertilizer shortage reaching Punjab’s farmers will be the direct failure of the Bhagwant Mann government.
BJP Punjab demands that the AAP government ensure transparent and timely last-mile distribution of fertilizers across all 117 constituencies before the Kharif season peaks.
