After Sanchita Ugale committed suicide, actress Jyothsna Channdola has talked about the loss of her friend and co-actor, urging not to trivialise emotional distress.
Sanchita, 22, died by suicide at her residence in Aachole Village, in Nalasopara East, on June 14. She had locked herself inside her bedroom and allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan using a saree. Doctors declared her dead on arrival at the hospital.
Jyothsna, who worked with Sanchita in the show “Kumkum Bhagya,” shared a video message talking about her friend and mental health.
She captioned the post: “Mental health is very serious hum khud hi aware ho jaaaye toh baat hi kya hai .. Im not the one who put videos like this I might delete it very soon bus just dil kiya so keh diya
Rest in peace @sanchita_ugale , U would have done amazing in life and u knw tht … , personally kabhi maine jyaada poocha nahi tumse… (sic)”
“jitna laga utna kaha , kabhi kabhi lagta haina ki kya ye sab samjhaana chahiye ya nahi but …. I hope u knw now Ki ye karne se kuch sahi nahi ho jaata … Bus ab yahi pray hai jahan ho ab wahan se ek nayi shuruaat karo…. Bhagwaaan tumhari is journey main tumhara saath de and ghar ke logon ko himmat (sic).”
“(I said as much as I felt I should. Sometimes, you wonder whether all of this should even be explained or not, but… I hope you know now that doing this doesn’t make anything right. My only prayer now is that wherever you are, may you begin a new journey from there. May God be with you on this journey and give strength to your family.)”
“Sanchita, who is my friend, co-actor, with whom I used to explain a lot of things like this. I don’t want to talk about why I did it, how I did it, what was the reason behind it. No, I know, but what happened was very bad,” she said in the video.
In the video, she was seen stressing that mental health struggles should be taken seriously. tHE actress also added that one should never ignore or dismiss someone who reaches out for help, as what may seem like a “small issue” to one person could be overwhelming for another.
“And it doesn’t mean that she is very weak or very strong, just that mentally she was not right at that moment, she did it. Mental pressure is a very big pressure. And I have been saying this before because we feel that if we react to small things, then many people say that why are you reacting to such a small thing, this is also something to react to.”
Jyothsna said that one needs to listen.
“You know, as soon as I came to know about this, for some time I felt that I was not able to talk to her for the past month because I couldn’t talk to her, we couldn’t talk every day. But for some time I felt that if I could talk to her, I mean I am just saying that I am not saying that I should keep talking to everyone.”
She added that if someone says something, you should never take it lightly.
“Maybe at some point he must have said something, that I am feeling very sad, I am feeling like this. He must have said something to someone, something normal. So how do we behave when someone says such things? We feel that this is not a bomb to get sad over small things, this is normal, this happens.”
“No, the thing that is normal for the other person, may not be normal for the other person. And the second thing, I mean the mental issue is a very serious issue.”
The actress added: “When the situation comes, like we go to do something, we go to harm ourselves, the thoughts that come, at that moment we are not able to control it. But because we know that these things are happening these days, we are listening so many times, so now we should try to understand. These days things are so available, listen to it in the podcast, it’s not like you will get some peace, all the sorrows of this world will end once you are out of this world.”
Jyothsna said that for now, she just wants that no one should DM her and ask about this, or message on the topic.
“And I really pray that, wherever she is, I am sure she must be watching, she must be in peace. I really hope, and wish, whenever someone talks to you, if they share their problem, don’t take it lightly.”
