Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan once playfully teased actress Deepika Padukone over her frequent eating habits when she appeared on his quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati alongside filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan.
During the episode, Big B jokingly pointed out Deepika’s supposedly regular eating schedule, claiming that she reached for food far more often than the usual three meals a day.
“Normally, a person has three meals in a day — breakfast, lunch and dinner. I have experienced that she [Deepika] eats every three minutes,” Amitabh said.
“Every three minutes, someone gets food for her in a bowl, and she never asks me if I want some too,” he added.
Deepika, however, was quick to offer her own version of events. The Bajirao Mastani actress said Amitabh was the one who repeatedly showed interest in whatever she was eating.
“Whenever I would open my dabba, Amit ji would come and ask me again and again what I am eating,” she recalled.
Responding with his characteristic humour, Amitabh quipped, “Lying is not permitted on this show!”
Farah Khan also joined the light-hearted exchange, offering an explanation for her professional association with Deepika. The filmmaker behind Main Hoon Na suggested that their bond was strengthened by her willingness to bring food for the actress from home.
“This is why Deepika Padukone works with me, since I get her food from home,” Farah said.
The conversation then turned to Farah’s homemade biryani, with Amitabh jokingly complaining that she had never shared the dish with him. Farah explained that biryani was not prepared for vegetarians at her home.
“Sir, at my home there is no Biryani preparation for vegetarians. There is only Veg Pulao,” she told the veteran actor.
Deepika made her Bollywood debut with Farah Khan’s Om Shanti Om, starring opposite Shah Rukh Khan. She later shared screen space with Amitabh Bachchan in Shoojit Sircar’s acclaimed film Piku, which also featured the late Irrfan Khan in a pivotal role.
Released in theatres on May 8, 2015, Piku received critical acclaim, with audiences and critics praising the performances of Amitabh, Deepika and Irrfan.
