Ahmedabad, September 15, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Ahmedabad City Police have invoked the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organised Crime Act (GUJCTOC) against three alleged members of the “Babu Kaliya gang” following an investigation into an arms case that allegedly revealed links to a wider criminal network involved in offences including attempted murder, illegal arms dealings, narcotics and intimidation.

The action follows a case registered at Vejalpur police station under Sections 109(1) and 54 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Sections 25(1-B) and 27(1) of the Arms Act.

During the investigation, police said they found evidence suggesting that the accused had formed an organised gang and were allegedly involved in criminal activities across different parts of Ahmedabad.

According to Zone-7 police, scrutiny of criminal records revealed around 14 serious cases registered against members of the group at Vejalpur, Vatva, Danilimda and the Crime Branch (DCB). The cases include allegations related to illegal possession and sale of firearms, attempted murder, deadly attacks, narcotics and threats.

Police said the accused allegedly continued their activities for nearly a decade despite preventive action under PASA and the CrPC, as well as conditional bail orders issued by courts.

Following a proposal submitted by the Vejalpur police inspector and approved by Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut, Sections 3(1)(2), 3(2) and 3(4) of the GUJCTOC Act, 2015, were added to the case.

The further investigation is being conducted by Assistant Commissioner of Police, N-Division, S M Patel.

Mujahid Ali alias Babu Kaliya Sakirali Aashiqali Nai, 33, is currently in judicial custody, while police have secured two days’ remand for further investigation. Wasim alias Demo Usman Abdulgafar Shaikh, 26, is also in judicial custody, while 23-year-old Rozankhan alias Shezan Wahidkhan Pathan has been declared wanted.

During questioning, police said Mujahid Ali disclosed his alleged involvement in two earlier murder cases. He was acquitted in a murder case registered at Vejalpur in 2018, while he was named as an accused in a 2023 murder case registered at Bavla police station in Mehsana district, in connection with the alleged supply of a firearm.

Police said his questioning is continuing to ascertain whether he was involved in any other offences.

The criminal records cited by police include a 2017 DCB case under the Arms Act; several Vejalpur and DCB cases registered between 2022 and 2025 under provisions of the IPC, BNS and Arms Act; a 2025 Danilimda case under Sections 8(C), 20(B) and 29 of the NDPS Act; a 2025 Vatva case involving alleged attempt to murder and Arms Act offences; and the 2018 Vejalpur murder case registered under Sections 302 and 120B of the IPC and provisions of the Arms Act.

The 2023 Bavla case includes charges under Section 302 of the IPC and provisions of the Arms Act and Gujarat Police Act.

Police records show Wasim named in three cases, including two Vejalpur cases registered in 2025 and the 2026 case that triggered the latest investigation. Rozankhan is also named in three Vejalpur cases, including cases registered in 2025 and 2026 as well as the latest case.

Further investigation is underway.
