Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday directed the Health Department to launch an intensive statewide awareness campaign to ensure that more eligible people benefit from the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna (MMSY) and Aam Aadmi Clinics (AACs).
Chairing a meeting to review the implementation of the two flagship healthcare initiatives, Mann said sustained public outreach was essential to ensure that welfare-oriented health services reached every eligible beneficiary.
He said 1,090 Aam Aadmi Clinics, including 603 in rural areas and 487 in urban areas, were currently providing healthcare services across Punjab. The clinics have recorded 6.11 crore outpatient department (OPD) visits so far, with 1.91 crore unique patients having accessed free treatment.
Around 93,000 patients visit Aam Aadmi Clinics each day, with an average of 86 OPDs recorded per clinic daily, he said.
Mann said data generated through the clinics was also helping the government understand disease patterns across different districts and plan healthcare interventions accordingly. Women account for 53.7 per cent of patients visiting the clinics, while men constitute 46.3 per cent.
He added that 107 medicines were being provided free of cost at the Aam Aadmi Clinics, offering financial relief to patients.
Reviewing the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna, Mann said more than 50 lakh households covering 1.25 crore beneficiaries had been brought under the scheme. More than 5.90 lakh beneficiaries had already received free treatment at 892 empanelled hospitals, comprising 223 government and 669 private hospitals.
According to the Chief Minister, 68 per cent of MMSY beneficiaries are from rural areas and 32 per cent from urban areas. He also noted that an increasing number of private hospitals were applying for empanelment under the scheme.
Mann said the government would step up efforts to inform eligible beneficiaries about the services available under both schemes.
“The results of both schemes are very encouraging, but the need of the hour is to ensure that more and more beneficiaries are registered and take benefit of these welfare schemes,” he said.
The Chief Minister also said he would personally undertake a major outreach campaign involving direct interaction with stakeholders associated with the schemes. He said such engagement would help strengthen implementation, address issues faced by beneficiaries and stakeholders and further improve the performance of the two healthcare initiatives.
Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh, Chief Secretary KAP Sinha, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr Ravi Bhagat, Principal Secretary Health Kumar Rahul and other senior officers attended the meeting.
