Recently Married Army Jawan Sarabjit Singh Makes Supreme Sacrifice in Siachen; Cremated With Full Military Honours

Rupnagar, June 17, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Army jawan Sarabjit Singh Bindrakh (27), who lost his life while serving the nation in the challenging terrain of the Siachen Glacier, was cremated with full military and state honours at his native village Bindrakh in Punjab’s Rupnagar district on Wednesday.

A large number of people, including local residents, Army personnel, district administration officials, political representatives and social leaders, gathered to pay their last respects to the brave soldier. The solemn ceremony witnessed emotional scenes as thousands of mourners bid a tearful farewell to the young jawan who made the ultimate sacrifice while on duty.

Among those present were Rupnagar MLA Advocate Dinesh Chadha, district administration representatives led by Tehsildar Surinderpal Singh Pannu, senior Army officers and members of various social organizations.

As a mark of respect, an Army contingent accorded a Guard of Honour to the deceased soldier before the final rites were performed.

Serving in Siachen for Nearly a Year

Sarabjit Singh, son of Darshan Singh, was serving in the 24 Punjab Regiment of the Indian Army and had been posted in the high-altitude and extremely demanding conditions of the Siachen Glacier for nearly a year.

According to family members, he suffered a sudden health emergency while on duty. Reports indicate that complications arising from oxygen deficiency in the high-altitude region led to his death while serving in one of the world’s most inhospitable military postings.

Recently Married, Had Planned to Visit Home

The tragedy has become even more poignant as Sarabjit Singh had been married only a few months ago.

He tied the knot with Amanjot Kaur on January 25, 2026. Amanjot is currently pursuing studies in law.

Family members said the soldier was expected to come home on leave and spend time with his family after months of deployment. However, fate had other plans.

Family Expresses Pride Despite Irreparable Loss

Speaking on the occasion, Sarabjit Singh’s father Darshan Singh and uncle Sukhwinder Singh Bindrakh said he had joined the Indian Army on September 15, 2018 and had always remained committed to serving the nation.

They described his death as an irreparable loss for the family but said they were proud that he laid down his life while serving the country.

“Though the loss can never be compensated, we take pride in the fact that he served the nation with dedication and made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty,” family members said.

Village Mourns Brave Son

The entire village of Bindrakh was engulfed in grief as residents gathered in large numbers to honour their fallen son.

Many paid tribute to Sarabjit Singh’s dedication, courage and patriotism, saying his sacrifice for the nation would always be remembered.

The final farewell reflected both the sorrow of losing a young soldier and the pride of a community whose son served the country till his last breath in one of the toughest military environments in the world.
