Meerut, June 17, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
In a shocking case that has sent shockwaves through both Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, a six-year-old boy studying in Patiala was allegedly abducted and murdered in Meerut, with the arrested accused confessing to the crime during police interrogation.
The victim, Angadveer Singh, was allegedly strangled to death after being kidnapped from outside his family residence. His body was later recovered from agricultural fields where it had allegedly been dumped by the accused.
Police have arrested Arpit Prashar, who not only confessed to abducting and killing the child but also claimed that he had been in a relationship with the boy’s mother for the past five to six years. Investigators, however, are yet to independently verify that claim.
Family Background
Angadveer Singh was the son of Gursewak Singh and Gurpreet Kaur, an estranged couple originally from the Behsuma area of Meerut district.
According to available information, Gursewak Singh has been working in Saudi Arabia, while Gurpreet Kaur had been living separately from him following marital differences.
The child had been enrolled in a school in Patiala and was reportedly staying there with his paternal aunt. However, he frequently visited his grandmother’s residence in Meerut.
Sources said Angadveer’s mother had recently arrived from Patiala and taken the child along with her about a week before the incident.
Child Reportedly Lured into Vehicle
Police investigations have revealed that on Tuesday morning, at around 11:30 a.m., a Wagon R car arrived near the locality where Angadveer’s family resides.
At the time, the child was reportedly playing outside. Investigators believe the accused lured the boy into the vehicle. Since the child may have been familiar with the suspect, he apparently entered the vehicle without raising any alarm.
After allegedly kidnapping him, the accused took the child to a secluded location where he was strangled to death.
CCTV Footage Helps Police Track Suspect
When the child could not be found despite extensive searches, his grandmother informed the police later in the day.
During the investigation, police examined CCTV footage from the area, which reportedly captured the child leaving in the Wagon R vehicle.
Using the footage and other technical evidence, investigators identified the suspect and subsequently arrested him.
Misled Police Before Confession
Police officials said that after his arrest, the accused initially admitted to abducting the child but attempted to mislead investigators regarding the whereabouts of the body.
He allegedly told police that the boy had been thrown into the Ganga Canal (Gang Nahar).
Acting on the information, police launched a search operation and even deployed divers to locate the body. However, no trace of the child was found.
During further questioning, the accused allegedly changed his version and confessed that he had strangled Angadveer before disposing of the body in nearby fields.
Subsequently, police recovered the child’s body from the location identified by the accused.
Investigation Continues
Investigators are currently working to establish the motive behind the crime and verify all claims made by the accused during interrogation.
Police have not yet confirmed the suspect’s assertion regarding his alleged relationship with the child’s mother. It also remains unclear whether the mother has been formally questioned or whether any further action will be taken in connection with the case.
The investigation is continuing, and authorities are expected to examine all aspects of the case, including family circumstances and the accused’s relationship with the victim’s family.
The gruesome killing has sparked outrage and grief among residents, with many demanding the strictest possible action against those responsible.
