The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, has apprehended private person Sarbjit Singh alias Bittu resident of Haibowal Kalan Ludhiana, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000/-.
Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of New Baba Deep Singh Nagar Ludhiana.
He informed that the the complainant’s father had entered into an agreement to purchase a 60 square yard plot in cycle market from Kuldeep Kumar, resident of Sahnewal and we had also taken possession of that place. In the year 2020, he came to know that Gurjit Singh alias Rimpi, son of the complainant maternal uncle, had got a fake registry of the said plot of land done by a person named Kulwant Singh.
The Khasra number registered in this registry was not of Cycle Market Ludhiana but of Chandan Nagar Ludhiana. After searching for Kulwant Singh, he told the complainant that he had not sold any shop in the cycle market to Gurjit Singh alias Rimpi. Kulwant Singh also told that he has a known person namely Bittu who is 4th class employee in Raikot Tehsil Office.
He further informed that the complainant wanted to get the said land registered in his name. The complainant talked to Bittu in this regard and Bittu told that he is well acquainted with the officers, he will talk to them and get the registration done in Pirubanda Cycle Mart Muradpura. Which will cost Rs. 3,50,000/- and he will take Rs. 25,000/- in advance and demanded a bribe of Rs. 5000/- as the first installment.
Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, complainant approached the VB range Ludhiana. Acting on his complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused Sarbjit Singh was arrested red handed while accepting bribe money of Rs 5,000/- from the complainant in presence of two official witnesses.
In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Ludhiana and further investigation into this case is under progress.
