India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan reached the milestone of 2,000 runs in T20 International cricket during the fifth and final match against New Zealand at Seddon Park on Sunday.
Kishan marked the achievement with an impressive 61 off 32 balls, becoming the third-fastest Indian to reach 2,000 T20I runs in terms of deliveries faced.
The left-handed batter completed the milestone in 1,345 balls. Abhishek Sharma holds the Indian record, having reached 2,000 runs in 1,024 deliveries, while Suryakumar Yadav is second with 1,164 balls.
Kishan entered the fifth T20I needing 45 runs to reach the landmark. He had scored 1 and 0 in the first and fourth matches he played in the series, while missing the second and third games due to a low-grade right adductor strain.
He brought up the milestone with a helicopter-style shot for four towards mid-wicket off New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner, before hitting a six to complete his 14th T20I half-century.
His innings eventually ended at 61 when Blair Tickner dismissed him, with Nathan Smith taking the catch at deep mid-wicket. Kishan struck five sixes and five fours during his knock.
Earlier, New Zealand won the toss for the first time in the series and elected to field, asking India to bat first.
India brought back Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Varun Chakravarthy in place of Mayank Yadav and Axar Patel, while New Zealand included Blair Tickner in place of Matthew Fisher.
