Young leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam has been added to India’s squad for the upcoming Japan T20I and Asian Games after Varun Chakaravarthy was ruled out with a side strain, the BCCI announced on Wednesday.
The Men’s Selection Committee named Nigam as Chakaravarthy’s replacement. All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was initially part of the Asian Games squad, has been withdrawn from the continental event and included in India’s ODI squad for the upcoming home series against the West Indies.
The selection committee also announced India’s squads for the three-match ODI and five-match T20I series against the West Indies, along with the Rest of India squad for the Irani Cup against Ranji Trophy champions Jammu & Kashmir.
The West Indies series begins on September 27, with the ODIs scheduled in Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati and New Chandigarh. The five T20Is will be played in Lucknow, Ranchi, Indore, Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
Shubman Gill will captain the ODI side, with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli included in the squad. Ruturaj Gaikwad, KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja are among the other prominent names.
Shreyas Iyer will lead the T20I team, with Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma also selected. Tilak has been named vice-captain.
For the Irani Cup, Rishabh Pant will lead the Rest of India side, with Sarfaraz Khan as his deputy. Akash Deep has been included subject to fitness clearance.
