UNITED SIKHS Participates in Texas CDL Panel, Raises Concerns About Fair Access to Commercial Driver Licenses

June 21, 2026(Yes Punjab News)

On June 16, 2026 UNITED SIKHS Regional Director Kamaljit Singh Kahlon participated in a panel discussion on Commercial Driver Licenses (CDLs) hosted by Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia and attended by Texas State Representative Mary Ann Perez and other community stakeholders.

The panel provided an opportunity for drivers, business owners, and advocates to share firsthand accounts of how recent CDL-related regulations have impacted their livelihoods, families, and businesses. During the discussion, UNITED SIKHS raised concerns regarding the treatment of individuals who are lawfully authorized to live and work in the United States but face barriers to obtaining or maintaining CDLs.

Director Kahlon highlighted concerns that some affected workers have been denied meaningful due process, including notice of adverse actions and an opportunity to respond before decisions impacting their livelihoods are made.

Director Kahlon further highlighted concerns raised by Sikh drivers, including cases such as that of a name “Singh,” where individuals fear that visible religious identity, including the wearing of a turban, may contribute to misunderstandings or heightened scrutiny. The organization called for fair, unbiased, and evidence-based decision-making that protects the rights of all workers.

Legislative officials recognized the importance of the concerns presented and engaged in discussions regarding workforce needs, public safety, and the economic impact of CDL regulations. UNITED SIKHS looks forward to continued dialogue with policymakers to ensure fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for all qualified workers.
