Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday reiterated her government’s commitment to developing hostel accommodation for 10,000 students across the national capital, with plans to provide safe, affordable and comfortable living spaces through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
According to a message shared by the Chief Minister’s Office on X, the proposed hostels will be established across colleges and universities, with improved facilities and management arrangements aimed at strengthening the city’s educational infrastructure.
The announcement comes as the Delhi government pursues initiatives to improve student accommodation alongside broader development programmes across the capital.
Earlier on Sunday, Gupta interacted with residents of rural Delhi and attended a religious yajna and turban-honouring ceremony organised by the Palam 360 Khap. She praised the organisation for its role in preserving social unity, brotherhood and cultural traditions.
The Chief Minister said her government was committed to the all-round development of Delhi’s villages, following the Centre’s emphasis on development alongside heritage.
She cited the recent decision to grant urban status to 48 villages as a step intended to accelerate development. The event was attended by MP Yogendra Chandeliya, MLA Raj Karan Khatri, Palam 360 Khap president Chaudhary Surendra Solanki and other dignitaries.
Gupta also inspected the development, beautification and construction work at Chhath ghats along the Munak Canal near Prembari Pul and Singhalpur.
Describing Chhath Puja as an important festival of faith that reflects Delhi’s cultural diversity, she said the government’s priority was to ensure adequate facilities, security, cleanliness and proper arrangements for devotees.
The initiatives form part of the government’s stated focus on educational infrastructure, rural development and public amenities across Delhi.
