Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday built anticipation for the upcoming ‘Wings Over Ganges’ air show in Varanasi with a social media post announcing the countdown to the aerial spectacle scheduled for Sunday.
“The countdown begins, Wings over Ganges, tomorrow in Varanasi,” Modi wrote on Facebook, drawing attention to the event planned in his parliamentary constituency.
The post was seen as a strong indication of the Prime Minister’s expected presence at the air show, which is set to feature aircraft of the Indian Air Force performing manoeuvres over the Ganges.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a high-level review meeting on Saturday to assess preparations for the event.
Officials from the civil aviation department, district administration, police and security agencies briefed the Chief Minister on arrangements for airspace management, spectator safety, traffic regulation and emergency services.
According to sources familiar with the discussions, Adityanath directed officials to ensure close coordination among departments so that the event proceeds smoothly and visitors do not face inconvenience.
Special attention was given to security arrangements along the riverfront and at vantage points expected to draw large crowds.
The ‘Wings Over Ganges’ air show is being organised as a major public event showcasing the Indian Air Force’s aerial capabilities against the backdrop of the Ganges. The choice of Varanasi also highlights the city’s role as a venue for major national events combining cultural significance with displays of military capabilities.
The local administration has begun implementing traffic diversions and crowd-management measures in and around the city. Boats and temporary viewing galleries along the ghats are also being prepared for spectators.
With the event scheduled for Sunday, the Prime Minister’s social media message and the Chief Minister’s review meeting have added to the anticipation surrounding the air show, which is expected to attract considerable public attention in Varanasi.
