Srinagar, October 24, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Saturday accused the Indian establishment of having “wrong” intentions towards Kashmiris, claiming that Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts were helping raise their concerns at international forums.

Addressing a party workers’ convention in Baramulla in north Kashmir, Abdullah said Pakistan was raising the Kashmir issue internationally and argued that its efforts were helping the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Pakistan is going to many places and talking about Kashmiris. That is why the people of Jammu and Kashmir are being saved. Otherwise, India’s intentions towards Kashmiris are not right,” he said.

Abdullah also criticised the functioning of the present administration in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly over delays in decisions concerning the health sector.

He alleged that a file relating to doctors’ service requirements had been pending in the office of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for more than a year without a decision.

According to Abdullah, medical students studying in Jammu and Kashmir are required to serve for two years in hospitals. Those who fail to fulfil the requirement must pay Rs 40 lakh, he said.

Questioning the administration of medical institutions, the NC president said directors and committees had previously been empowered to decide which equipment to procure and which doctors to appoint. He alleged that these powers had since been withdrawn.

Referring to the region’s autonomy, Abdullah said he had confronted the head of the administration over its erosion.

“I asked him that you have finished the autonomy, he admitted it on my face,” he said, while questioning what justice people could expect from Delhi.

Calling on people to raise their voices for their rights, Abdullah urged them to demonstrate courage and resist fear.

“Have the courage to face them, if you don’t, you will be wiped out,” he said.

He maintained that the people of Jammu and Kashmir were not enemies of the country and said they were willing to contribute to its progress and make sacrifices for the nation. However, he urged those in power to correct their approach.

“We will progress with the nation and we will also sacrifice for the nation, but I tell those who are in power today to correct themselves,” Abdullah said.

The veteran leader also called on NC workers to remain committed to the party regardless of whether it was in government.

Questioning those who associate themselves with the organisation only when it holds power, he asked whether their loyalty would continue if the government changed.

Abdullah said the strength of a political party depended on the sincerity and dedication of its workers rather than merely on electoral victories or the formation of a government.

He urged party members to act with courage and conviction and not allow fear or personal interests to dictate their political conduct.

Concluding his address, Abdullah said he was accountable to Allah and therefore spoke what he believed to be the truth before the public.
