Actor and filmmaker Randeep Hooda has reflected on receiving his first National Film Award, saying the occasion became even more special because he experienced it alongside his family and as the father of his daughter, Nyomica.
Hooda received the National Film Award for Best Debut Film of a Director/Best Debut Director at the 72nd National Film Awards for his biopic Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.
On Wednesday, Hooda shared photographs from the prestigious ceremony on social media, posing with the award alongside his wife, Lin Laishram, and their daughter.
Reflecting on the achievement, Hooda dedicated the honour to the entire team behind Swatantrya Veer Savarkar as well as audiences who have supported his work throughout his 25-year cinematic journey.
“When one is consumed by what one does, it becomes about doing your best from one moment to another. One is distant from the rewards besides the joy of being blessed to be able to do what consumes you. Then another moment arrives that makes you look back at what you have done,” he wrote.
Recalling the moment he stood ready to receive the award, Hooda said the honour represented the collective efforts of everyone who worked on the film.
“This was not for me but for the team of many who worked tirelessly to bring this movie alive. It was also for the audience who have loved and supported my work for the past 25 years,” he added.
Hooda described receiving the award from the President of India as a moment of immense joy and pride. He also said having his family present made the occasion particularly meaningful.
“I wasn’t just there as Randeep Hooda but as Nyomica’s father and to share that moment with my family there made it even more special. With this great pat on the back, I feel so encouraged to do so much more,” he wrote.
Hooda and Lin Laishram got married on November 29, 2023, in Imphal, Manipur. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Nyomica, on March 10, 2026.
