Tumakuru (Karnataka), September 16, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
A newlywed couple was killed in a hit-and-run accident after an unidentified vehicle allegedly rammed their motorcycle near Dwaralu on National Highway 48, close to Sira town in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district, police said.
The incident came to light on Wednesday. The deceased have been identified as 25-year-old Darshan and 21-year-old Usharani, residents of Hunasikatte village. The couple had reportedly married around one-and-a-half months ago.
According to police, Darshan and Usharani were riding a motorcycle near Dwaralu when an unidentified vehicle allegedly hit their bike. Darshan died on the spot in the impact.
Usharani suffered serious injuries and was being taken to hospital when she succumbed to her injuries on the way.
Police said the couple had gone out for a ride when the accident occurred. The vehicle involved fled the spot following the collision.
Tavarekere police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify the vehicle and its driver. Further details are awaited.
The incident comes a day after another fatal road accident in Karnataka claimed the lives of a couple and their daughter after a tanker allegedly ran over their scooter in Mandya.
The deceased were identified as Mutturaj, his wife Kavya and their daughter Keerthana. Mutturaj, who worked at a factory in Bengaluru’s Peenya area, had travelled with his family to his mother-in-law’s house for the Ganesh festival.
The family was returning to Bengaluru at around 4.15 a.m. on Tuesday when the tanker allegedly hit their scooter from behind and ran over them. Police said CCTV footage showed the tanker dragging the scooter for some distance after the collision.
The tanker driver fled the scene, and police have launched a search to trace him. Investigators suspect rash and negligent driving to have caused the accident.
In another hit-and-run case on Bengaluru’s northern outskirts on May 13 night, a 45-year-old man was killed while his wife and daughter were injured after their electric scooter was allegedly hit by a car in the Chikkajala police station limits.
Police suspected that a speeding Audi was involved in the accident and that its driver fled without stopping to help the victims. Although CCTV cameras captured the incident, the vehicle’s high-beam headlights obscured its registration number, making identification difficult.
