The Punjab government is set to organise a Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh Marathon at Mahilpur on March 22 dedicated to the martyrdom day of legendary martyr S. Bhagat Singh.
Reviewing the ongoing preparations and arrangements here at District Administrative Complex, Punjab Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Jai Krishan Singh Rouri stated that the marathon would commence from Sri Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College, Mahilpur under Punjab Government’s flagship program ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’.
Under able leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, said Rouri adding that several initiatives had already been taken to curb the menace of drugs besides sensitising people about the ill-effects of drugs. The upcoming Marathon is also part of the series of anti-drug endeavours so as to spread awareness against the drugs motivating the youngsters towards sports and healthy lifestyle.
Deputy Speaker said that drugs eradication from the state was one of the major priorities of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann Government, for which constant efforts and action were going on. He said that the winners of the marathon would also be awarded with appreciation for their feat.
He said that the marathon would take place in four categories including 5 km, 10 km, 21 km and 42 km as well as administering the pledge of ‘Say No to Drugs’. He said that all necessary arrangements will be made in the marathon so that the entire process can be carried out smoothly.
He also asked SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik to apprise people well within time about the traffic diversions and alternative routes. He said that emphasis is also being given for maximum participation of students in the marathon so that the message against drugs can be taken to the ground level.
Regarding the registration, the Deputy Speaker said that interested persons/youth for various categories could register for the National Marathon through www.srsftge.com.
He said that complete information can also be got through this app. Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain urged the concerned officials to complete the necessary arrangements on time.
