The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has onboarded 300 Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSEs) since the rollout of the initiative in January, expanding the adoption of Aadhaar-based offline verification across multiple sectors, the government said on Thursday.
According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the initiative is enabling secure, consent-based and paperless verification in sectors such as hotels, hospitality, healthcare, education, events, the gig economy and consumer-facing services.
The ministry said the onboarding reflects growing confidence in privacy-focused digital verification frameworks that prioritise user control and data minimisation in line with the provisions of the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act.
The Aadhaar application has recorded nearly 7.5 crore downloads so far, providing residents access to a range of Aadhaar-related services through their smartphones.
The app has facilitated more than 86 lakh mobile number updates, 22.16 lakh address updates and 40.25 lakh email updates without requiring users to visit an Aadhaar centre.
It has also recorded 4.6 crore biometric lock and unlock transactions, indicating increased use of security features that allow residents greater control over their biometric information. Additionally, the app registered 3.61 lakh Aadhaar lock or unlock transactions.
The government said these initiatives are aligned with the Digital India vision and aim to improve ease of living through secure, accessible and technology-enabled public services.
