Nagaur, November 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
At least two people were killed and two others critically injured in a powerful explosion at a firecracker and gunpowder manufacturing unit in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district on Thursday morning, triggering a major rescue operation amid fears that more workers could be trapped.
The blast occurred around 9.40 a.m. in the Badli area. Its impact was reportedly so intense that the sound was heard nearly half a kilometre away, causing panic among residents.
Police and fire brigade teams rushed to the premises, reportedly owned by a person identified as Amin, and began firefighting and rescue operations. Two young men died at the spot, while two others were found critically injured and shifted for medical attention. Their identities had not been established at the time of reporting.
Preliminary information suggests that a fire broke out among stored firecrackers before triggering the explosion. A stock of finished firecrackers was also found inside one section of the premises. Local residents said gunpowder was manufactured there by mixing potassium nitrate.
The exact cause of the blast remains unclear, and authorities are yet to confirm the total number of people present at the unit when the explosion occurred. Rescue teams were continuing searches to determine whether anyone else remained trapped.
Residents claimed that the owner held a permanent licence for firecracker-related activities. However, officials have not disclosed the permitted storage capacity or the quantity of firecrackers and potassium nitrate kept at the facility.
The extent of the damage and the circumstances leading to the explosion are still being investigated.
