Six and a Half Lakh Saplings to be Planted in Amritsar District on Occasion of 650th Prakash Utsav of Guru Ravidas: DC

To further promote environmental greenery in district Amritsar, a special plantation drive will be launched to plant six and a half lakh saplings dedicated to the 650th Prakash Utsav of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji.

In this regard, Deputy Commissioner Amritsar Mr. Dalwinderjit Singh today chaired an important meeting with officials of various departments to discuss and prepare the framework for this campaign in detail.

Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner said that Sri Guru Ravidas Ji gave the message of equality, service, and love for nature to humanity.

To commemorate his 650th Prakash Utsav in a memorable manner, the district administration will undertake this large-scale plantation campaign under which six and a half lakh saplings will be planted in villages, urban areas, schools, colleges, government offices, along roadsides, canals, and other public places across the district.

He directed all departments to work in coordination to make the campaign successful and said that each department would be assigned targets for plantation. He further emphasized that along with plantation, proper care and maintenance of the saplings must also be ensured so that the campaign does not remain merely a formal exercise but contributes meaningfully towards environmental improvement.

The Deputy Commissioner said that participation of school students, social organizations, panchayats, NGOs, and the general public would also be ensured in this campaign.

He added that every citizen can pay true tribute to Sri Guru Ravidas Ji by planting and nurturing at least one sapling. He stated that this initiative would not only be dedicated to the Prakash Utsav of Sri Guru Ravidas Ji but would also prove to be a major step towards creating a clean and green environment for future generations.

Addressing the meeting, District Forest Officer Mr. Rajesh Kumar said that it is the duty of all of us to plant more and more trees to protect future generations from diseases and provide them with a healthy environment. He appealed that this campaign should not be treated merely as a government initiative but as a people’s movement.

The District Forest Officer informed that the Forest Department would provide saplings free of cost to all government departments. He further stated that corporations, boards, and NGOs would be provided saplings at subsidized rates by the government, under which a sapling costing Rs. 20 would be made available at Rs. 2 per sapling.

Among others present in the meeting were Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Mrs. Paramjit Kaur, District Social Security Officer Mr. Aseesinder Singh, Assistant Director Horticulture S. Jatinder Singh Sandhu, Deputy Director Animal Husbandry Dr. Sandeep Dhawan, APO MGNREGA S. Karamjit Singh, Colonel V.K. Singh, Nodal Incharge Dharminder Singh, Deputy Director CEO S. Tirathpal Singh, Employment Officer Mr. Mukesh Sarangal, Principal Government College Ajnala Mrs. Parminder Kaur, besides officials from various departments.
