The recovery of mobile phones from the Central Jail continues unabated, with the police booking 10 inmates after eight mobile phones, including six touchscreen and two keypad handsets, were recovered during a search operation inside the prison.
As per information, the recovered mobile phones were allegedly found in the possession of undertrial inmates Surjeet Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Rishav, Bittu, Kuldeep Singh, Manak, Rahul, Saurav alias Lohada and Harjeet Singh, besides a convict identified as Baldev Singh.
Following the recovery, the police registered a case against all ten inmates under Section 52-A of the Prisons Act.
The latest seizure adds to a series of similar recoveries reported from the jail in recent weeks. Earlier on May 19, ten jail inmates were booked after nine mobile phones were recovered. On May 9, seven inmates were booked following the recovery of eight mobile phones. Likewise, on April 24, seven undertrials were booked after 12 mobile phones were seized, while on April 18, seven undertrials were booked following the recovery of three mobile phones.
The repeated recoveries have once again raised concerns over the smuggling of prohibited items from the jail. Notably, more than 200 mobile phones have already been recovered from the jail this year.
