Opposition Parties Should Learn Lesson of Pro-People Politics from CM Mann and help Flood Victims: Dhaliwal

Amritsar/Ajnala, September 14,2025(Yes Punjab News)

Today, in Ajnala constituency, MLA and former Cabinet Minister of Punjab, Mr. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, addressed the Gram Sabha meetings convened in flood-affected villages—Chamiari, Harrar Khurd, Amb Kotli, Jagdev Khurd, Kot Gurbaksh, Pachhia, Machiwala, and Kotli Shah Habib. These villages were hit hard not only by the natural calamity of devastating floods in the Ravi river but also by the overflowing Sakki drain and other seasonal rivulets.

In the meetings, 5-member committees were formed in the presence of Block Development Panchayat Officers and other government officials under the supervision of Mr. Dhaliwal. These committees were tasked with assisting government-appointed survey and girdawari teams with honesty and impartiality in assessing losses to crops, houses, livestock, schools, dharamshalas, panchayat houses, and other public infrastructure, while also acting as watchdogs.

Addressing the meetings, Mr. Dhaliwal said that unlike the earlier Congress and Akali-BJP governments since independence, the present government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is the first to truly feel the pain of flood victims as its own and to take concrete, people-centric measures. He noted that, at government expense, the Mann-led government has initiated cleaning operations in flood-affected villages where houses and localities were buried under silt and debris brought by rivers and drains.

He added that during the previous governments, during floods in years like 1988, 1993, and 1995, the affected villagers were left to fend for themselves—spending from their own pockets to clean villages, dispose of dead animals, and remove silt from fields.

Mr. Dhaliwal highlighted that Punjab, under CM Mann, has also become the first state in the country to announce compensation of ₹20,000 per acre for crop damage. He said that for the cleaning of 195 villages in Ajnala constituency and a total of 2,300 villages across Punjab, CM Mann has sanctioned ₹100 crore, out of which the first installment of ₹1 lakh has already been transferred to each affected village panchayat.

Later, while interacting with journalists, Mr. Dhaliwal strongly criticized BJP, Congress, Akali Dal, and other opposition parties, accusing them of cooking their political bread over the plight of flood victims. He said these opposition parties, rejected by the voters of Punjab, should stop indulging in fake politics and instead learn from the pro-people governance of CM Mann and his government, which is working sincerely to relieve flood-affected people in this difficult time.

He further said that floods are indeed a natural calamity, but had there been no Aam Aadmi Party government under CM Mann, flood victims would have been forced to suffer even more loss of lives and property. He recalled how, during previous governments, ministers, MLAs, and officials would only visit flood victims after the floodwaters had receded.

On this occasion, Khushpal Singh Dhaliwal, BDPOs of Ajnala, Ramdas, and Harsha Cheena blocks—Sitara Singh Virk, Pawan Kumar, and Pragat Singh respectively—along with OSD Gurjant Singh Sohi, PA Mukhtiar Singh Baladwal, as well as panches, sarpanches, and other village dignitaries were present.
