Lovely Professional University (LPU) has been ranked 78th in the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) 2026, marking a remarkable rise from its 109th position last year.
With participation from thousands of universities, WURI evaluates institutions not just on academic output but on their real world impact. It recognises universities that are driving meaningful change through innovative education, creative problem solving and strong community engagement.
LPU secured the 78th global position and ranked 4th in India, outperforming several globally renowned institutions including the University of California Los Angeles, Purdue University, Washington State University, University of California Santa Barbara, Imperial College London, University of Toronto, McGill University, University of Waterloo, University of British Columbia,Nanyang Technological University, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi, Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
In category specific achievements, LPU earned recognition across 15 innovation driven categories.
The university secured the 4th global rank and 1st position in India in Financial Impact Driven Technology Transfer, followed by the 8th global rank and top position in India in University Based Entrepreneurial Projects, and the 11th global rank with the leading position in India in Funding for Sustainability.
LPU also attained the 20th global rank and 1st in India in Ethics and Integrity, 22nd globally in Curricular Innovation for Future Readiness, 29th globally in Cost Effectiveness Management, and 32nd globally with the top position in India in University Brand and Reputation.
The university further secured the 36th global rank in Industrial Application, 37th globally and 1st in India in Crisis Management, 38th globally in Culture and Values, 54th globally in Infrastructure and Technology, and 55th globally in Entrepreneurial Culture and Ecosystem.
LPU also received notable recognition in categories including Student Mobility and Openness, AI Based Teaching and Learning Transformation, and Inclusive Social Innovation for the Underserved, reflecting its continued focus on innovation led, industry integrated, and socially relevant education.
Commending the achievement, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU, stated, “The recognition reflects a larger shift in higher education where universities are increasingly being evaluated by the relevance, adaptability, and societal impact of the learning they deliver.
Institutions today must move beyond conventional academic models to create ecosystems that encourage innovation, interdisciplinary thinking, ethical leadership, and problem solving aligned with real world challenges. Such global acknowledgements reinforce the importance of education systems that are both academically rigorous and deeply connected to emerging global needs.”
LPU’s performance across multiple WURI categories highlights its continued emphasis on experiential learning, industry integration, and innovation led education.
