The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) registered a resounding victory in the Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation elections by winning 35 of the 50 wards, while the Congress secured nine seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won three wards, and three Independent candidates also emerged victorious.
Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Ashika Jain said the entire election process was conducted peacefully and fairly. Polling was held from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., following which counting of votes was completed and the results declared.
According to the official results, Independent candidate Rajni Bala won Ward No. 1, while Congress candidate Ramesh Kumar was elected from Ward No. 2. AAP opened its account with Rajni Kaur winning Ward No. 3, while BJP candidate Jatinder Singh Saini won Ward No. 4.
AAP continued its dominant performance across the city, winning the majority of the remaining wards through candidates including Praveen Saini, Narendra Kaur, Mukhi Ram Rall, Gurbaksh Kaur Rall, Jaspal Chechi, Sandeep Chechi, Jatinder Kaur, Balwinder Kumar, Chandravati, Kamaljit Singh, Amanpreet Kaur, Surinder Kumar Shinda, Manmeet Kaur, Jaswant Rai, Raj Rani Bains, Harinder Singh, Baljit Kaur, Ajay Kumar, Manjot Kaur, Kulwinder Singh, Neeraj Rani, Rajeshwar Dayal Babbi, Harpreet Kaur, Parmjit Kaur, Darpan Saini, Anjana Barmi, Jaswinder Kaur, Neelam Rani, Pradeep Kumar, Ajay Kumar Verma, Kamlesh Rani, Teerath Ram and Sukhwinder Kaur.
Congress winners included Ashok Kumar, Rimpy Chauhan, Baljit Kaur, Balwinder Kaur, Navjot Katoch, Alka, Meena Kumari and Tanisha Sharma, besides Ramesh Kumar.
The BJP’s successful candidates were Jatinder Singh Saini, Gitika Arora and Kamaljit, while Independent candidates Rajni Bala, Ranjit Chaudhary and Jagwinder Singh also secured victories.
With 35 councillors, AAP has comfortably crossed the majority mark and is set to assume control of the Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation.
