Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for 30 development projects worth Rs 1,024 crore in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency on November 9, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Standing Committee Chairman Kamlesh Patel said on Thursday.
The projects cover housing, water infrastructure and other civic amenities. Patel said they are aimed at improving infrastructure and civic facilities across the constituency represented by Shah in the Lok Sabha.
Speaking after the AMC’s weekly Standing Committee meeting, Patel also outlined the civic body’s arrangements for Diwali. He said firecracker waste accumulating on roads would be collected and cleared during the night to ensure clean streets during the day. The fire brigade will remain on alert, while municipal hospital staff will be on standby to provide medical assistance in case of emergencies.
In another development, the AMC is preparing to introduce two indigenous toy trains at Kankaria Lake during the Diwali festivities, subject to completion of pending formalities, including police verification.
The existing toy train, known as Atal Express, was introduced in 2008. Patel said it had been imported from abroad at a cost of around Rs 8 crore. The AMC has now procured two locally manufactured trains using indigenous technology at a combined cost of Rs 3.59 crore, in line with the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’.
Trial runs of both trains have been completed successfully, Patel said.
