The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted a flight test of the indigenously developed surface-to-surface Pralay missile off the Odisha coast, marking another milestone in India’s defence capabilities.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced the test on Thursday, stating that it was conducted at 11.10 am as part of user evaluation trials.
“DRDO successfully conducted the flight test of the indigenously developed Pralay Missile off the coast of Odisha today at 1110 hrs,” he posted on X.
“The test was conducted as part of user evaluation trials and successfully met all the stipulated objectives, as validated by data captured through various range instruments,” he added.
Singh said the successful trial marked another significant milestone in strengthening India’s indigenous defence capabilities.
Last month, DRDO also announced the successful flight trial of its indigenously developed High-Altitude Platform System (HAPS), which reached an altitude of 21 km and demonstrated long-endurance flight capabilities in the stratosphere.
According to the Defence Ministry, the experimental flight remained at around 20 km above mean sea level for more than 30 minutes before being commanded to descend. The platform was safely recovered, and flight performance data was analysed.
The trial demonstrated the system’s ability to operate in the stratosphere, which offers potential advantages for persistent surveillance, communications and monitoring missions. Real-time video and vehicle performance data were transmitted continuously to the ground control station.
The flight was conducted in coordination with the Indian Air Force, the Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the Airports Authority of India and other civil authorities.
