Actress Urmila Matondkar has paid a nostalgic tribute to black-and-white cinema with her rendition of the classic song ‘Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon’ from the 1949 film ‘Patanga’.

On Thursday, Urmila shared a black-and-white video on her official Instagram handle, showing her performing to the popular number. Dressed in a long kurta and skirt, she completed her look with large jhumkas and a hairstyle inspired by the era.

Sharing the video, the actress wrote, “Tribute to my love for black n white cinema..old Hindi songs n all the nostalgia that comes with it (sic).”

She also added, “Play it again, Sam”.

Set against the backdrop of World War II, ‘Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon’ was picturised on Gope and Mohana Cabral. The song was sung by C. Ramchandra and Shamshad Begum, with music composed by C. Ramchandra.

The ‘Rangeela’ actress regularly shares glimpses of her personal interests and activities on social media.

In October, Urmila visited the hilltop Sanjivani Hanuman temple and offered prayers. Sharing pictures from the visit, she described the experience as an opportunity to explore one of India’s beautiful temples.

She also referred to the legend that Lord Hanuman’s foot touched the hilltop while he was carrying the Sanjeevani mountain, giving the summit’s rock formation its religious significance.
