New Delhi, November 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The parents of deceased IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode met Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Thursday, seeking justice for their son.

The second-year student was found dead on the IIT Powai campus on September 18, reportedly after being caught using a mobile phone during an examination by the institute authorities.

Speaking to IANS after the meeting, Sahil’s father, Ravindra Wakode, said the family had lodged an FIR on September 19 but no arrests had been made so far. He alleged that the Mumbai Police had failed to conduct a serious investigation.

“We are not getting the adequate support from police and have hence filed a petition in the High Court. After that, we sought an appointment and came to meet Rahul Gandhi. He spoke with us for about an hour and a half and assured us that he stands with our family,” Ravindra said.

Sahil’s mother, Sonali Wakode, demanded the immediate arrest of Professor Suryanarayana Doolla, who was earlier removed as Dean of Students’ Welfare at IIT Bombay, and the institute’s Director, Professor Shireesh B. Kedare.

“I demand that Kedare and Professor Suryanarayana Doolla be apprehended as soon as possible. My child must receive justice; no other ‘Sahil’ should ever have to suffer like this. A mother is crying out for justice for her child,” she told IANS.

The parents said they were disappointed that they had been unable to secure justice for their only child. They have approached the Bombay High Court seeking a fair and independent investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

They have also filed an application before a special court designated to hear cases under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, seeking a court-monitored investigation into their son’s death.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Crime Branch earlier recorded Professor Doolla’s statement in connection with the case. He was questioned for approximately eight hours and denied the allegations levelled against him.

Congress MP Varsha Gaikwad said Rahul Gandhi also met the family of Aniket Ambore, who allegedly died by suicide at the IIT Bombay campus in 2014. She added that the Leader of the Opposition had assured support to both families.
