New Delhi, November 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday announced the schedule for the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls, aimed at enrolling eligible voters who were left out of the lists, including first-time electors.
The integrated draft electoral rolls will be published by November 30, while the final voter lists are scheduled for publication on January 21, 2027.
The exercise will be undertaken in states and Union Territories where the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has recently been completed or its third phase is currently underway. The Commission said the process would be conducted in phases rather than as a single nationwide exercise.
The schedule for Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Nagaland, the National Capital Territory of Delhi, Tripura and Telangana will be announced separately.
The SSR in hilly regions, including Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, will also be taken up at a later stage in view of the cold weather conditions.
As per the announced timeline, rationalisation and rearrangement of polling stations must be completed by November 20, followed by publication of the integrated draft electoral rolls by November 30.
Electors and other stakeholders can submit claims and objections between November 30 and December 12. The disposal of these claims and objections must be completed by January 16, 2027, ahead of the final publication on January 21.
The ECI has also issued instructions for Booth Level Officers (BLOs), District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and other officials involved in the exercise.
Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) will issue press notes during the process and share photographs of EROs handing over weekly lists of claims and objections to political parties. The updates will also inform the public and political parties about the appeals procedure.
A press note on the final publication will provide a summary of elector details and explain how appeals can be filed, the Commission said.
The announcement follows the ECI’s September 29 instructions for a special enrolment drive in at least 20 states and Union Territories to include eligible young and first-time voters who may have been left out of the electoral rolls.
