Chandigarh, May 12, 2026 (Yes Punjab News):
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Advisor to the Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Deepak Bali on Tuesday accused the BJP-led Central Government of adopting an “anti-Punjab mindset” by allegedly promoting Sanskrit over Punjabi in Army Schools located in Punjab.
Strongly criticizing the reported decision to make Sanskrit compulsory while pushing Punjabi to the fourth position in the curriculum, Bali termed the move a “conspiracy to weaken Punjabi language and Punjabiyat.”
He alleged that the Centre was systematically trying to undermine Punjab’s language, culture and identity through such policies. According to him, Punjabi is not merely a language but a reflection of the emotions, history and cultural heritage of millions of people.
Deepak Bali said that under the Punjab Language Act, Punjabi is a mandatory subject in the state from Classes I to X and forms an integral part of the legal and educational framework of Punjab.
“It is Punjab’s land and Punjabi is the mother tongue of its people. Any attempt to weaken Punjabi in the education system is highly unfortunate and condemnable,” he said.
The AAP leader further alleged that the BJP-led government at the Centre was deliberately implementing policies that diminish the importance of Punjabi language and disconnect the younger generation from its mother tongue and cultural roots.
Bali asserted that Punjabi is the language of the Sikh Gurus and respecting it is the duty of every Punjabi. He said the Aam Aadmi Party would not remain silent on the issue and would oppose any such “conspiracy” aimed at weakening Punjabi language and culture.
Warning of strict action, Bali stated that no school in Punjab would be allowed to function if Punjabi was not taught as a compulsory subject. He added that if the Centre failed to reverse the decision, the AAP would intensify its protest and the Punjab Government would take immediate action against such schools.
He also alleged that the BJP government consistently appeared to work with a mindset aimed at weakening Punjab, adding that the people of Punjab would never compromise on their language and cultural identity.
