Mumbai, October 12, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Mumbai Indians (MI) have signed USA left-arm pacer Tara Norris from UP Warriorz (UPW) through a trade ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 season, scheduled to be held from January 14 to February 7.

Norris will join Mumbai Indians at her existing fee of Rs 10 lakh. She was previously part of MI London, and the trade marks Mumbai Indians’ first-ever player trade in the Women’s Premier League.

“Mumbai Indians have completed their first-ever trade in the Women’s Premier League, bringing USA international and left-arm pacer Tara Norris into the team. Having previously been part of MI London, Norris now joins Mumbai Indians’ WPL squad, bringing her experience across the global T20 game to the team,” the franchise said in a statement.

The two-time WPL champions said Norris would add depth and versatility to their bowling attack as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Norris made history at the inaugural WPL auction by becoming the first player from an Associate nation to be picked by a franchise. She represented Delhi Capitals in the league’s opening season and became the first bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in the competition.

A left-arm swing bowler, Norris has represented the England Women’s Academy, Southern Vipers, Southern Brave, Loughborough Lightning, Sussex and the USA in her career.

UP Warriorz, who finished at the bottom of the WPL 2026 points table, made several changes to their squad on the retention deadline day last month. The franchise released overseas players Deandra Dottin, Chloe Tryon and Amy Jones, along with Indian players Kiran Navgire, Shweta Sehrawat and leg-spinner Asha Sobhana.

Despite the departures, UP Warriorz retained an 11-member core featuring overseas players Meg Lanning, Phoebe Litchfield, Sophie Ecclestone and Tara Norris. Their retained Indian contingent includes all-rounder Deepti Sharma, Harleen Deol, Shikha Pandey, Kranti Gaud, Pratika Rawal, Shipra Giri and Simran Shaikh.

The retention period for the WPL 2027 season ended on September 28. Across the five franchises—Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and UP Warriorz—a total of 63 players, including 23 overseas players, have been retained ahead of the league’s fifth season.

With 27 slots, including seven overseas-player slots, remaining to be filled, the auction is scheduled to take place at the Grand Hyatt Kochi on October 28.
