Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, and Chairman, Northern Region, Bharat Global Industrial Forum (BGIF), today chaired an extensive “Industrial Dialogue” with leading industrial associations including United Cycle Parts & Manufacturers Association, CICU, FICO, representatives from the metal & steel sector, MSMEs, exporters and trade bodies from Punjab.
Senior officials from the Ministry of MSME and DGFT also participated in the interaction to directly hear the concerns and suggestions of the industry.
Dr. Sahney said that Punjab, which once ranked among the leading industrial states of India, must regain its position through stronger policy support, improved infrastructure and renewed industrial confidence.
Expressing concern over the slowdown in Punjab’s industrial growth compared to neighbouring states, he highlighted that Haryana’s GST collections have grown significantly while Punjab’s industrial ecosystem requires fresh momentum and stronger support for MSMEs.
He emphasized that under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji, the Central Government has introduced several transformative initiatives for MSMEs, including the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme and additional credit support measures, but awareness regarding these schemes must increase among industries and entrepreneurs.
Dr. Sahney further stated that the urgent need of the hour is the revamping of all the 52 focal points of Punjab, adding that no concrete action has been taken on this issue till now.
During the interaction, industry representatives also raised the issue of the inverted duty structure before Union Ministry officials, highlighting that in several sectors raw materials are purchased at 18% GST while finished goods are sold at 5% GST. The officials guided the industry regarding Input Tax Credit (ITC) refund mechanisms available under GST provisions.
Dr. Sahney stated that the dialogue also focused on the theme “Nation First Manufacturing: Reducing Imports, Encouraging Innovation & Strengthening Indian Industry” in the backdrop of the ongoing West Asia crisis.
Associations including CICU, FICO, United Cycle Parts & Manufacturers Association etc. honoured Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney and appreciated the initiative, stating that such constructive dialogues between industry and government should be organised more frequently for the benefit of Punjab’s industrial sector.
