A Punjab Police Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with his service revolver in Tarn Taran district on Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as ASI Amarjit Singh, who was posted at Kairon Police Chowki.
Soon after the incident, senior police officials rushed to the spot and initiated proceedings. The body was later shifted to the Civil Hospital in Patti for a post-mortem examination.
The exact circumstances that led to the tragic incident are yet to be ascertained. Police officials have not disclosed any specific reason behind the alleged suicide.
It remains unclear whether the ASI was facing personal issues or whether any work-related factors contributed to the incident. Police are investigating all possible angles to ascertain the cause behind the extreme step.
