Delhi High Court Directs Centre to Restore Cockroach Janta Party’s X Handle

New Delhi, July 8, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed the restoration of the X (formerly Twitter) account of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), observing that the primary reason cited by the Union Government for blocking the account no longer existed following the conclusion of the NEET examination process.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma allowed a petition filed by Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, challenging the blocking of the social media account and ordered that it be unblocked.

Court Finds Centre’s Primary Concern No Longer Relevant

During the hearing, the Centre submitted that the X account had been withheld to prevent confusion and maintain order among students and parents ahead of the NEET re-test held on June 21.

Taking note of the submission, the Court observed that the government’s principal concern was linked to the conduct of the examination. Since the NEET process had concluded, the basis for continuing the blocking order no longer survived.

“The primary concern has now ceased to exist. In these circumstances, the blocking order is revoked,” the Court held while allowing the petition.

Petition Challenged Blocking Order

Dipke had approached the High Court seeking quashing of the Centre’s blocking order and immediate restoration of the party’s X account.

The matter had earlier come up before Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav, who declined interim relief and directed the statutory Review Committee constituted under the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking for Access of Information by Public) Rules, 2009, to examine the petitioner’s grievance while calling for the Centre’s response.

During those proceedings, Senior Advocate Akhil Sibal, appearing for Dipke, argued that even if certain posts were considered objectionable, those specific posts could remain blocked instead of withholding the entire account. He also sought disclosure of the blocking order and referred to previous judicial precedents involving social media platforms.

X Handle Was Blocked in May

The original X account of the Cockroach Janta Party was withheld in India on May 21, days after the satirical digital outfit was launched on May 15 following controversy surrounding remarks attributed to the Chief Justice of India.

Soon after the blocking, the group launched a new X handle titled “Cockroach is Back”, which currently has more than 2.27 lakh followers.

The organisation has gained significant attention for using the “cockroach” symbol as a form of digital protest and youth mobilisation.

According to the group, it seeks to build an independent youth-driven movement highlighting issues affecting young people and holding the government accountable. It has also campaigned for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and broader concerns relating to the education system.

With the High Court’s latest order, the original Cockroach Janta Party X account is set to be restored.
