In a significant organisational exercise ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, the Congress on Wednesday retained Amrinder Singh Raja Warring as President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) and Partap Singh Bajwa as Leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), while announcing a comprehensive election management structure for the state.
The appointments were announced by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal following the approval of the Congress President. The newly constituted election-related committees will take effect immediately.
The decision puts an end to months of speculation over the future of the Punjab Congress leadership, with the party choosing continuity at the top while assigning senior leaders key responsibilities for the 2027 Assembly elections.
Channi to Head Campaign Committee
Former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has been appointed Chairperson of the Campaign Committee, which will spearhead the party’s election campaign across the state.
The committee will be assisted by Co-Chairpersons:
- Sukhpal Singh Khaira
- Rana Gurjeet Singh
- Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi
Vijay Inder Singla to Head Election Management Committee
Senior Congress leader Vijay Inder Singla has been named Chairperson of the Election Management and Coordination Committee.
The committee’s Co-Chairpersons are:
- O.P. Soni
- Razia Sultana
- Kuljit Singh Nagra
- Angad Singh Saini
- Bharat Bhushan Ashu
Sukhjinder Randhawa to Chair Core Committee
Senior leader Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has been appointed Chairperson of the Core Committee, which is expected to oversee strategic political decisions and coordination during the election campaign.
Dr. Amar Singh to Head Manifesto Committee
Former MP Dr. Amar Singh will head the Manifesto Committee, which has been entrusted with preparing the party’s election manifesto.
The committee’s Co-Chairpersons are:
- Gurjeet Singh Aujla
- Pargat Singh
- Hardial Singh Kamboj
- Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria
Three Working Presidents Appointed
The Congress has also appointed three Working Presidents of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee:
- Sukhwinder Singh Danny
- Raj Kumar Verka
- Sangat Singh Gilzian
Continuity with New Election Structure
By retaining Raja Warring as PPCC President and Partap Singh Bajwa as Leader of the Congress Legislature Party while simultaneously announcing election committees headed by experienced leaders, the Congress has sought to strike a balance between organisational continuity and collective leadership.
The newly constituted committees are expected to begin preparations for the crucial 2027 Punjab Assembly elections immediately.
